High alert issued for Malakand division, all hotels were
closed immediately, tourists from all over the country were evacuated from the
area and directed not to return, the flow of water in the Swat river has increased
alarmingly. According to details, continuous rains for three days in different
districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially in Malakand division, have created
a catastrophic situation.
It has been reported that due to 3 consecutive days of rain,
the flow of water in the Swat River has increased to a dangerous level. The
Swat River is now overflowing and there is a risk of flooding in the region. In
all these circumstances, a high alert has been issued for the entire Malakand
division. Following the issuance of the high alert, all the hotels in the
region have been evacuated and closed.
Tourists from across the region have been instructed not to
leave the area. Despite this, there are reports that some tourists are stranded
in the area due to the flooding of communication roads. It has been reported
that due to catastrophic rains and flood situations, part of Swat Besham Road
has been washed away in floodwaters after which the administration has issued
orders to evacuate the settlements along the river.
Besides, Shangla and Buner link bridges were also flooded. The Meteorological Department has also forecast a new cycle of rains in Malakand region and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from tomorrow. The provincial government says all emergency measures are being taken. People are being evacuated. NDMA and PDMA are also mobilized to deal with emergencies.
